About Us

How we got started

Lake Family Resource Center was incorporated on April 11, 1995 as Lake Health Alliance. The organization was brought into being through collaboration between Sutter Lakeside Hospital and (what was then) Redbud Hospital to provide community benefit through nonmedical programs. By January 1997, Redbud Hospital had affiliated with the Adventist system and that organization had decided to withdraw from the collaboration; in July 1997 Lake Health Alliance’s name had been changed to Sutter Lakeside Community Services (SLCS) to reflect the sole affiliation with the Sutter Healthcare system. In 2006 SLCS and Sutter Lakeside Hospital underwent a friendly disaffiliation process and the organization changed its name to Lake Family Resource Center (Lake FRC), an unaffiliated, completely independent private nonprofit, community benefit corporation.

Over Time

Lake FRC has continued its commitment to strengthen the Lake County community by strengthening its families.  Services are 100% funded through grants, contracts, private donations, and occasional fee-for-service projects (anger management workshops, community training opportunities, etc.) and are provided at no cost to our clients.  The agency has grown from 10 staff members and a budget of $250k per year to over 53 staff members, multiple volunteers, and an annual budget of c. $3.5M per year, serving approximately 10% of Lake County’s population annually.  In 1997, the agency provided teen parenting services and parenting programs.  Over the past 25 years it has added:  a) mental health services, b) rape prevention, treatment and support services, c) Early Head Start, d) Child Abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment services, e) domestic violence prevention, shelter, counseling, training, and support services, f) housing assistance, g) Adverse Childhood Experiences information and outreach, h) comprehensive services to seniors through the operation of the Lakeport Senior Center
